Biography

After receiving his BS degree, John Lienhard went on to receive MS and PhD degrees from the University of Washington and University of California, respectively. He has held faculty positions at several universities as a teacher and researcher in the area of thermal and fluid systems. Since 1980 he has held positions that included an element of the history of technology. Since 1989 he has been the M.D. Anderson Professor of Technology and Culture at the University of Houston. He is a Fellow of ASME and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Of many notable achievements, he developed, wrote, and hosted 504 episodes of The Engines of Our Ingenuity, a national public radio program giving a historical view of technology, culture, and the creative process.
